TEACHING ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE: ACTING/DIRECTING

The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a non tenure-track, renewable (annually for up to three years) position at the rank of Visiting Lecturer, beginning September 2010.

The successful candidate will have extensive professional experience in the theatre and will bring skills that supplement those of the current faculty. Responsibilities include participating in University of Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre productions and the department's touring outreach program, Shakespeare-in-the-Schools in the capacity of performer and director/writer.

Other responsibilities include teaching undergraduate acting or directing courses; developing and implementing artist workshops and residencies in area schools; serving as coach or advisor for faculty and student productions; providing mentorship for all students in the department. Teaching Artists-in-Residence are expected to attended faculty meetings, serve on committees, and participate fully in the administrative duties of the Theatre Arts Department.

Tenure-track Position in Theatre Education at Emerson College

Description:

The Department of Performing Arts seeks to fill a full-time, tenure track faculty position to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in drama and theatre education, including courses in education required for Massachusetts licensure of teachers of theatre. The appointment begins with the 2010-11 academic year beginning September 1, 2010.

Additional responsibilities will include supervising student teaching practica, directing and administering the undergraduate theatre education program in the Department of Performing Arts, advising and mentoring undergraduate Theatre Education majors, serving on departmental and college committees and performing other services as appropriate to the position, sharing in the collegial development of curriculum in theatre education and in the department, sharing in the recruiting responsibilities for both the undergraduate and graduate Theatre Education programs, and advancing the academic and professional reputation of the institution.

The successful candidate should have a terminal degree in Theatre Education or a related area and significant professional experience in both education and theatre arts with at least five years of successful college level teaching experience. The successful candidate will have a background and teaching experience in the following areas: Drama/theatre arts curriculum design and implementation, pre K-12; contemporary theories of teaching/learning; authentic assessment; urban and multicultural education; current Massachusetts and national curriculum frameworks, theatre standards, and licensure requirements; student teacher supervision; mentoring college faculty in teaching; and contemporary national and international practices in process drama, drama-in-education, theatre-in-education, and playmaking.

The Department offers productions mounted in three different venues, including the newly opened Paramount Production Center, the Cutler Majestic Theatre, and the Tufte Performance and Production Center.

GENERAL DUTIES:
Performs teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise as noted below.

CAMPUS-SPECIFIC INFORMATION:
This position will require teaching, mentoring and advising graduate level students as well as participation in Program, Department and University committees.

Teaching may include courses in the following areas: Foundations of Educational Theatre; Theatre for Youth and Young Audiences; Fundamentals of Teaching Theatre; Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment in Educational Theatre; and Research Seminar in Educational Theatre.

The prospective candidate may be responsible for supervising student teacher candidates, coordinating fieldwork sites and spearheading curricular development.

The program in Educational Theatre is an exciting new graduate program committed to providing teacher candidates with an interdisciplinary approach to education. As a developing program, we are seeking a dynamic individual who is interested in working collaboratively with faculty and students to create new project and initiatives. Additionally, prospective candidates should be actively engaged in the ongoing dialogue in the field of Educational Theatre.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's degree area(s) of expertise and other qualifications noted below as being necessary for satisfactory performance of job duties. Also required is the ability to teach successfully.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's Degree and/or Ph.D. in Educational Theatre, Applied Theatre, Theatre Outreach or the equivalent; at least 5 years teaching experience. Teaching experience can include, but is not limited to, work in the following areas: Public School teaching Pre K-12, Teaching Artist work, Professional Development facilitation, Higher Education instruction. Record of publications and/or conference presentations preferred.

NOTE: Candidates with appropriate combination of qualifications and experience may be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor.

COMPENSATION:
Salary commensurate with rank, qualifications and experience.
