Job Description:
The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at Austin is accepting applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position to collaborate in the leadership of a rigorous undergraduate program in K-12 theatre teacher education. Terminal degree, including M.F.A., Ph.D. or Ed.D., with emphasis in pre-college drama/theatre pedagogy; a minimum of three years full-time pre-college classroom and production experience and a minimum of three years successful college level teaching in theatre teacher education.

Teaching responsibilities may include one or more of the following: urban and multi-lingual/multi-cultural drama/theatre education; K-12 theatre program development; theory of teaching/learning in theatre/drama; assessment and evaluation models in theatre/drama; development of new work with pre-college students; and freshman through senior colloquia; as well as advising and mentoring undergraduate students.

The successful candidate should be active in national professional organizations. Experience working with underserved populations and experience in development of college level theatre education curricula, practicum experiences and program administration desirable. The successful candidate may have opportunities to participate in development of a summer Masters program for teachers or to co-direct a UTeach program in theatre studies. Familiarity with Texas and national curriculum frameworks, standards and licensure requirements desirable.

POSITION: Public Performance Manager
DEPARTMENT: Public Programming


SUPERVISOR: Director of Public Programming

SUMMARY: A full time salaried position responsible for creating, presenting, and training others to perform informal interactions, tours, story telling, interactive demonstrations and theatre programs on topics and concepts in science and technology for visitors including school groups, families and on-line viewers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Consistently perform and record interactive science demonstrations and theatre programs for general visitors, school groups and at off-site events. Interact directly with visitors between 4.5-5.00 hours per day.
• Work closely with exhibit developers and content specialists to create new content supporting current and upcoming public programs. Participate in group script writing process with fellow presenters, contracted directors, and/or playwrights.
• Direct staff presenters and volunteers. Schedule and lead rehearsals as well as train others to perform all varieties of demonstrations.
• Evaluate staff and audience response to presentations using traditional and web based tools. Maintain daily attendance records.
• Stage manage all performance areas including: ordering and purchasing expendable materials; overseeing gathering and preparation of props and costumes; working with designers and producers to create sets, props and costumes.
• Maintain all equipment necessary to a theater including lighting, audio visual equipment, and control booth.
• Maintain online video archive of performances as well as scripts/updates.
• Travel, transport, set up and perform outreach performances as required.


MINIMUM JOB/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in theater, formal training in theater arts or equivalent previous performing experience required.
• Experience working with children and youth in informal learning environments.
• Presenter must demonstrate strong performance skills; have a demonstrated commitment to educational science theatre.
• Background and/or strong interest in several sciences; physics, geology, ecology, etc.
• Excellent technology skills including new media experience, online video and web 2.0
• Excellent oral communications skills and ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. 





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the museum's mission statement, goals, and policies as per employee manual.
• Knowledge of electronic media and its application to public performance

• Ability to work within established budgets

• Knowledge of science curriculum and training materials for a range of programs serving students and teachers grades K-8.
• Ability to works cooperatively with others and integrate departmental activities with the Museum as a whole.
• Ability to supervise, coordinate and evaluate staff.

• Ability to demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT



Transport, set up, and store sets, props, and costumes as needed for in-house maintenance. This could include lifting loads of up to 40 pounds and working off floor level on ladders, grids, or special sets.
The Museum is open 7 days a week. The Public Performance manager is required to work a flexible and varying schedule, which may include 2-3 evenings a month for special events.
