Eastern Illinois University, Department of Theatre Arts, Acting/Directing Specialist

The Department of Theatre Arts at Eastern Illinois University seeks an Assistant Professor to teach in the acting program beginning fall 2010.

The successful candidate will become a member of an active Department of Theatre Arts located within the College of Arts and Humanities. The Department of Theatre Arts consists of eight faculty, three staff and 60 majors and minors. This position will be responsible for: Teaching in and coordinating the acting/directing sequence; general education and teaching in an area of specialty as needed within the departmental structure. The opportunity to direct at least one production annually is available depending upon qualifications. Contribution to departmental activities and committees is expected. Full-time appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. MFA, PhD or equivalent professional experience of 3-5 years minimum expected. Additional training or expertise in dance/movement/musical theatre will be considered a plus. Salary is commensurate with experience and competitive. Eastern Illinois University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities. The College seeks a dynamic person to provide effective leadership and vision that advances the college and university missions and goals in an academic environment of excellence. The College of Arts and
Humanities is comprised of 225 faculty members in nine academic departments representing the Arts (Art, Music, Theatre Arts) and the Humanities (English, Communication Studies, Foreign Languages, History, Journalism, Philosophy) as well as the Interdisciplinary Center for Global Diversity (African-American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, Women's Studies) and the Tarble Arts Center,
a major cultural arts resource serving east-central Illinois. The College enrolls about 1800 majors and awarded 460 degrees in AY 2008-2009. Responsibilities
The Dean's responsibilities include:
Articulate a clear vision for the College and provide compelling leadership to realize the vision
Provide leadership to assist the College's units in realizing "integrative learning" opportunities in all degree programs through which students are intentionally encouraged to reflect on the connections between their academic programs and their personal experiences and development.
Encourage creativity, innovation, scholarship, and interaction among faculty
Promote a climate in which excellence and creativity is fostered among both students and faculty.
Manage the quality and future directions of the undergraduate and graduate curricula
Provide skilled administrative leadership to facilitate decision making at all levels of the College
Execute responsible budget planning and fiscal management
Forge strong partnerships and collaborative relationships with local and regional off-campus constituencies in both the arts and the humanities.
Participate actively in public, private and corporate development activities and extramural fundraising efforts for the College.
Promote a positive work environment for staff, faculty, and students.
Foster diversity among faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants must hold a terminal degree appropriate to one of the disciplines in the College with teaching, research/scholarly/creative achievement, and service commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment in one of the academic units within the College and demonstrate:
Significant administrative and budgetary experience in a higher education setting at the level of department chair, director or other senior level administrative position
Proven leadership ability including the ability to deal effectively with a diverse and broad range of constituencies and the skills necessary to lead a dynamic academic college
The ability to foster and promote the programs and activities of the College to on- and off-campus constituencies
Commitment to innovative undergraduate and graduate education
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Commitment to enhancing diversity and equal opportunity for members of minority groups and women

Starting Date
July 1, 2010

Salary Range
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
