Assistant Professor: Theatre Education, UNC Charlotte

Position: The UNC Charlotte Department of Theatre is seeking a full-time tenure-track position beginning August 2010. Candidate will teach courses in theatre and theatre education and be responsible for the direction and supervision of the undergraduate and graduate programs in theatre education. Additional responsibilities will include coordinating the program for North Carolina licensure of teachers of theatre, supervising student teaching practica, advising and mentoring undergraduate Theatre Education majors, serving on departmental and college committees and performing other services as appropriate to the position including recruitment and development of the program, and advancing the academic and professional reputation of the university.

Required Qualifications: Terminal degree in theatre education or related area; secondary experience in theatre and contemporary national and international practices in drama-in-education, theatre-in-education and process drama. Background and experience in theatre arts curriculum design and implementation, contemporary theories of teaching/learning; urban and multicultural education desired.

Setting: The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university located in one of the nation's fastest growing metropolitan areas on an expanding modern campus. It is part of one of the oldest public university systems in the United States. UNC Charlotte offers over 22,000 culturally diverse students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Department: Robinson Hall, our new state-of-the-art performing facility with a 300 + Proscenium Theatre, and intimate Black Box Theatre Lab. Additional studio space is located in the adjacent Rowe Arts Building. Faculty, student, and guest artist works are regularly performed as part of the season of fully supported main stage productions. The Department has 15 full-time faculty and typically hires about a dozen part-time faculty and guest artists. There are approximately 90 majors in the department. The program offers a B.A. in Theatre and Theatre Education. In conjunction with the College of Education the Department also offers a Master of Arts in Teaching Theatre. A Master of Arts Administration is also being offered through collaboration with the Department of Art.
