Director of Education, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte – Charlotte, NC

The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (CTC) is seeking a Director of Education. CTC is a fully producing, professional theatre company whose primary audiences are young people ages 3-18 and families. Annually serving approximately 300,000, CTC is unique among theatres for youth by placing equal emphasis on the production of high quality professional performances and comprehensive educational offerings. Each season, CTC mounts 12 productions for public and school audiences and provides educational programming at the ImaginOn facility and multiple satellite locations throughout Mecklenburg County.

CTC’s main facility, ImaginOn, is a shared facility in partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. This combination library/theatre was created as an original approach to education, learning and the arts. The partnership’s mission: bringing stories to life.

The Director of Education leads and manages CTC’s comprehensive theatre arts education experience, delivering a full scope of classes, community initiatives, residencies and summer camps. This senior-level position, reporting to the Executive Director, is responsible for articulating the department’s vision and leading a large team of education program coordinators, teaching artists and summer staff. The director develops professional contacts locally, regionally and nationally, representing CTC at external education meetings or events. The director also works closely with the marketing department to develop promotional and marketing material.

As a member of CTC’s management team, the director creates and supervises the department’s long-range plans and strategic goals, in accordance with CTC’s corporate long range plan. The director is responsible for facilitating and organizing the work of the Board’s Community Involvement and Education Committee. The director develops, tracks and manages a $600,000 budget, and works in collaboration with the Development, Marketing and Sales Departments to raise funds, write grant proposals and develop activities to further the goals of CTC. The director also serves as the liaison to the Library/CTC partnership to support, create and implement shared initiatives with the library partners.

Candidates must have:

• Demonstrated strategic and leadership experience at a senior level, including experience leading a large team.

• Experience in teaching, creating, developing and implementing theatre education programs.

• Proven budgeting and financial management skills.

• Strong organizational, planning, writing and communication skills, including experience building community relationships.

• Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Theatre Education, Arts Management or related field or commensurate experience. 5+ years of experience in Arts Education, Arts Outreach or related field.
